Daina Cinema Tile Concept
Created for the modernist Cinema Daina in Kaunas, this 4-meter-long ceramic artwork pays homage to the building’s interwar heritage. Designed in 1936 by architects Stasys Kudokas and Antanas Breimeris, the cinema remains a landmark of Lithuania’s modernist architecture.
The tile composition reinterprets shapes from the cinema’s original logo and façade geometry, transforming them into a rhythmic ceramic surface. Installed in the lobby, the artwork anchors the refurbished space: it subtly insists that the building continues to speak modernist, even as it adapts to new cultural uses. In this way, the installation becomes part of the building’s ongoing narrative—a lasting element within a heritage structure, aligning with its original ambition and architectural language.
