Kaunas 2022 — Modernism Reinterpreted
Created for the Kaunas Modernism Reinterpreted exhibition during Kaunas 2022, this tile installation draws directly from the architectural language of the Aleksandra Iljinienė House, a celebrated example of interwar modernism in Kaunas. The building’s distinctive features — from its window arrangements to its functional yet artistic detailing — served as the inspiration for the design.
Composed of handmade tiles arranged in modular grids, the installation translates the house’s geometric rhythms and proportions into ceramic form. The tiles reinterpret architectural motifs, creating a dialogue between historic modernist design and contemporary craftsmanship, highlighting the ongoing relevance of interwar architecture in a modern cultural context.
